Digestion is at the root of health. Many “holistic health” practitioners philosophy is that you are only as healthy as your digestive system is. The reason for that is that without proper nutrients being “fed” to the organs, glands and cells nothing can function properly and at its peak. Strong digestion is necessary to break down the essential fats, minerals, proteins and other substances that are vital for a healthy functioning body. The digestive system starts from the minute food touches your tongue. That action sends a signal to your brain that food is coming. The brain analyzes every mineral, fat, carbohydrate, etc. that touches the tongue and sends the appropriate enzymes to process what it senses.
What’s all this about acid? Is it good, bad or what? HCL “hydrochloric acid” is an enzyme that is released in the stomach, or is it supposed to be released in the stomach. Often as we age, we stop producing these vital enzymes and that is when an “out of balance condition” can occur. The acids function is to kill any and all bacteria, virus, parasites, yeast, mold or fungus that might have been ingested. If you do not have the right HCL balance then one of these undesirables might get past the stomach and enter into the bowel. They can take up residence in bowel and cause havoc and you might experience symptoms (warning signs) like belching, gas, heartburn, acid reflux, and on. It’s a confusing subject.
